The base beer for all of the collaborations between Casey Brewing & Blending and Side Project Brewing has never been released in bottles, but that changes next week.
Named Fruitless, the barrel-aged sour ale is non-fruited and is brewed with both Casey’s culture and Side Project’s culture “at the start of fermentation to get something very different than our other base beers.”
Fruitless is not only the fourth unique beer that the two breweries have joined forces on, it is also the base beer for the previous three, all of which incorporate a different fruit:
- Velvet is an 8 percent ABV saison ale brewed with mixed cultures from both breweries and aged in French wine barrels for 12 months with 1,400 pounds of organic Colorado apricots
- Jammy is an 8 percent ABV saison conditioned on a “massive amount” of Colorado blackberries
- Leaner is an 8 percent ABV saison conditioned on Flamecrest Colorado peaches that debuted in 2016
According to an email sent from Casey Brewing & Blending, Fruitless will be package in 750ml bottles ($18) and will go on sale to members of the brewery’s Extended Family membership club on Aug. 24 with a one bottle per person limit.
