Evil Twin Brewing is a gypsy brewery originating from Copenhagen, Denmark with headquarters in Brooklyn, N.Y. In order to fully understand the origins of Evil Twin, one would need some knowledge of the relationship between founder Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergso and his identical twin brother Mikkel Borg Bjergso, founder of Mikkeler Brewing. The intent of this article is not to go into detail about the brothers and their somewhat tumultuous relationship, but if you were particularly interested, I would suggest looking at this piece from The New York Times
Beginning in 2008, Deschutes Brewery has released a barrel-aged version of its flagship Black Butte Porter annually to celebrate the anniversary of its opening in 1988. To mark 25 years of operation in 2013, Deschutes released Black Butte XXV, an imperial porter brewed with dates, figs and cocoa nibs. For XXV, half of the beer is aged in bourbon casks and an eighth of the beer is aged with blackcurrants added before the batch is blended back together for the final bottling.
If you're one of those people who doesn't see much difference between a porter and a stout, Bourbon Barrel Black Maple from Jackie O's Pub & Brewery in Athens, Ohio may be all the evidence you need to support your argument.
