Double IPA

AleWerks Secret Admirer DIPA

Established in 2006, AleWerks Brewing Co., has gained a reputation for fine beer. Whether it's year-round or special, seasonal releases, its beers have become more sought after year after year. The brewery is located in the heart of Williamsburg, Va. and it operates a direct fired brick-clad Peter Austin brew house and ferments all of its beers in state-of-the-art conical fermenters.

Reaver Beach Hoptopus DIPA

Reaver Beach Brewing is a relatively new brewery to the craft beer scene. It was founded in 2010 in Virginia Beach, Va. by newlyweds Justin and Kristin McDonald.Beer production started on a very small scale, brewing only 12 gallons at a time. A used five barrel brewhouse was purchased from a small brewery in New Hampshire sat unused, while waiting for a natural gas line to be dug to the building. Once fuel was introduced to the 155 gallon system, production increased and ran at a steady pace from 2010-2013. Struggling to keep up with demand for its beer, at the end of 2013, construction began on a new facility, and in January of 2014, the first batches of beer were brewed on a new 15 barrel brewhouse into shiny, new 30 barrel fermenters. In February 2014, the doors officially opened at their new facility and taproom.

Russian River Pliny The Elder

It is arguably the most famous, sought after, talked about and otherwise storied brew of this proverbial craft beer renaissance.  Spanning a full decade this beer has won two bronze and three gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup, as well as, being voted the number one commercial beer in the world by the homebrewing publication Zymurgy for six years straight. That's right, I said six years straight. It is also credited with spawning the immense popularity of the double India pale ale—or imperial India pale ale—style.

Two Roads Road 2 Ruin DIPA

Two Roads Brewing Co., which has only been open for a little over two years, has quickly become one of the largest breweries in the state of Connecticut.

Part of this is due to their location, just a few blocks from I-95 in Stratford; part of it is due to its facility, which is in a beautifully repurposed factory building that use to be home to a company that made metal presses. This allows Two Roads to do contract brewing, currently it is brewing Lawson's Sip of Sunshine DIPA, among others. And they have a fantastic tasting room, on the second floor overlooking the brewing operations. But they have also been producing some good beer since the beginning, and their Road 2 Ruin Double IPA is one of their original brews that doesn't disappoint.

Bear Republic Racer X Double IPA

Established during the first craft beer boom, Bear Republic opened up their brewpub in 1995 in Healdsburg, Calif. In 2006, it opened a new factory in Cloverdale, only a few miles north of its original brewpub location. Like many California breweries, it has created an environmentally=friendly brewery, practicing sustainability with everything from solar arrays to reduced water usage during the brewing process.
