SAINT ARNOLD BREWING CO. CHANGES NAME OF BROWN ALE

More than 19 years since its first release, Saint Arnold Brown Ale will have its name changed to help make the lives of local dogs better.

The beer will now be known as Saint Arnold Ale Wagger and a portion of the proceeds will be earmarked to support animal welfare programs in the brewery’s home city of Houston, Texas. Although the blend will remain the same, the label will now include the new name, as well as depictions of multiple types of dogs.

Saint Arnold Brewing Co. has teamed up with BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions to encourage members of the craft beer community to adopt homeless animals.

Not only will the the proceeds from the sale of Ale Wagger be used to support BARC’s spay and neuter programs, but the brewery will also be hosting an Ale Wagger pet adoption event that will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4.

“Houston has a serious issue with unwanted dogs and cats, and we saw this as an opportunity for Saint Arnold and the craft beer community to make a difference,” said Brock Wagner, founder and brewer at St. Arnold’s in a press release.

“With five rescue animals in our house, we can attest to the love and affection these animals bring. Ale Wagger is just part of our commitment to working on this issue in every community in which Saint Arnold is involved.”

Since being introduced in June 1995 in commemoration of Saint Arnold’s first year in business, the beer has won multiple awards, including a bronze medal in the English-Style brown ale category at the 2003 Great American Beer Festival, a silver medal in the American brown ale category at the 1996 World Beer Cup and silver medal in the brown ale category at the World Beer Championships in 1998 and 1996.

The 5.3 percent ABV brown ale will be sold in 12-ounce bottles in six-packs and will ship to retailers starting next week.
