Just Outstanding is quite a bold name to put on a beer. Kern River did it with an IPA and it worked.

According to Kyle Smith, Brewmaster at Kern River:

This beer was first brewed as one of my homebrew projects, using a 15 gallon setup. When Kern River was established in 2006, we tweaked the recipe and started producing it at the brewery

It is dry hopped with Amarillo and Simcoe hops to impart the floral and citrus nuances that really put this beer onto the top tier of IPAs.

Poured from a-22 ounce bomber, this American IPA is golden-orange in color with a finger of creamy off-white head and medium carbonation. The floral aroma grabs a hold and does not let go with essences of grapefruit, gala apple, pineapple, clementine and a backdrop of pine and creamy caramel.

Taste follows the pattern of boldness with pineapple, grapefruit, stonefruit, sugar cookies, pine resin and a touch of earthiness. Just Outstanding’s mouthfeel is big and bold, yet still provides a silky and smooth feeling. It finishes dry with floral and fruit and a good balance of citrus, hops, caramel and malt.

Simcoe and Amarillo hops come together with loads of citrus, malt and piney goodness to produce a brew that is worthy of its name. Carbonation is right where it should be and the malt balances well with the citrus and provides a drinking experience that is enjoyable from beginning to end. I highly recommend this to the enthusiast that is looking for full-flavored IPA that does not disappoint.
