The brewery is located in the heart of Williamsburg, Va. and it operates a direct fired brick-clad Peter Austin brew house and ferments all of its beers in state-of-the-art conical fermenters.
AleWerks brewmaster, Geoff Logan, continues to produce quality products, including many award-winning beers. Most recently including two grand champion awards at the U. S. Beer Tasting Championships. AleWerks Bourbon Barrel Porter won in the barrel-aged category against 67 other beers and also AleWerks won in the beer bean category for Café Royale, a coffee house stout aged in Virginia Gentleman barrels.
Pumped full of Amarillo, citra and mosaic hops, Secret Admirer DIPA pours a semi-hazy orange color with three to four fingers of frothy, creamy head with lots of peaks and craters and intense lacing, clinging in fizzy spots to all sides of the glass.
The aroma engulfs the nose, with fresh-squeezed orange juice, grapefruit rind, dank pine and a touch of green onion. Tastes follows the aroma with oranges, citrus rind, peaches, apricots, melon, resin and freshly mowed grass.
All of these flavors blend together and balance extremely well, giving a tingly citrus and sweet tropical mouthfeel with the mosaic hops coming forth more and more. Alcohol feel is almost non-existent, even when Secret Admirer warms and the finish continues to produce tropical flavors and dankness that are amazing.
