In late 2015, two of the biggest names in sour beers combined their efforts and this month the fruit of their labors will be released.
The beer in question is Happy Blending, a 6.6 percent ABV barrel-aged American sour ale fermented with 3 pounds per gallon of plums and nectarines. According to the beer label, cellarmen from both Wicked Weed Brewing and The Rare Barrel “travelled to one another’s breweries to select their favorite barrels from the others’ collection” before combining the beer from those barrels to ferment on the aforementioned fruit.
According to Wicked Weed, Happy Blending is packaged in 500ml bottles and will have a one case per person limit when it goes on sale on Feb. 17 at the Funkatorium, while The Rare Barrel will also be releasing the beer on Feb. 17 at its brewery for on-site enjoyment only.
Update (Feb. 1, 2017) — This post was updated to include details on the release date for The Rare Barrel. It was originally published on Jan. 18, 2017.
