Wicked Weed has new beers from the old word.
According to Erin Jones, spokesperson for Wicked Weed Brewing, the new beer is Hiver Joie, a 10.5 percent ABV Belgian-style “dark sour ale” is brewed with dried orange peel and coriander before being aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels for one year.
It is one of two in the Asheville, N.C.-based brewery’s new Moeder Series, which will focus on old world styles that will incorporate spices and fruits that compliment each specific release. Although a release date has not been set yet, the second beer in the series will be named Hiver Sommeil.
The beer label filed with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) has this to say:
In winter, stillness falls over landscapes, all is hushed by snow, and the silence brings us to a welcome halt. The weariness of the world rejoices, and we return to the first things: the homes of our youth, the family table, the shared stories embellished, not diminished, by time.
The silent night is shattered by the cadence of winter’s joy, and we are remade into the glory we once were. Fear is displaced by peace and mirth.
In winter, the first things become the only things.
Hiver Joie will be packaged in 500ml bottles and will be released at the brewery this week and will be distributed to retailers starting next week.
