Next month, Westbrook Brewing Co. is releasing not one, not two, but three different variants of its most popular stout.
Those variants are Mexican Coffee Cake 2019, an imperial stout aged on cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, cinnamon sticks and fresh habanero peppers as well as “mounds of beautiful espresso beans” sourced from Tandem Coffee Roasters; XXXtra Spicy Mexican Cake 2019, an imperial stout conditioned on a “BRUTAL assortment of fresh and dried chilies we could find – including but not limited to: dried habanero, fresh jalapeño, dried ancho, dried guajillo, and fresh Carolina Reaper”; and Triple Chocolate & Vanilla Swirl Mexican Cake 2019, an imperial stout conditioned on “cocoa husks and two varieties of cocoa nibs plus a huge dose of vanilla beans.”
All three variants use the Mt. Pleasant, S.C.-based brewery’s Mexican Cake (10.5 percent ABV) as their base, a beer that debuted in 2012 to celebrate Westbrook’s first anniversary.
According to a post on Westbrook’s website, Mexican Coffee Cake 2019, XXXtra Spicy Mexican Cake 2019 and Triple Chocolate & Vanilla Swirl Mexican Cake 2019 are all packaged in 22-ounce bottles ($20) and will go on sale at the brewery on Aug. 17 with a purchase limit to be announced at a later date.
