For the first time in its history, Weldwerks Brewing Co. is releasing not one, but two different barrel-aged barleywines.
Both versions feature the same base beer: an English barleywine brewed with pale malt, four different crystal malts, and raw cane sugar, with an extended boil and fermented with British Ale yeast. The Double Oaked Barleywine was aged for 18 months in Woodford Reserve Double Oaked bourbon barrels while the Rye Whiskey Barleywine was aged for 15 months in 10 year-old American oak barrels that had previously aged 100 percent rye whiskey.
The new beers will be released during Weldwerks’ 4th Anniversary Block Party on March 23 celebrating the brewery’s fourth year in business.
According to a post on Weldwerks’ Facebook page, both Double Oaked Barleywine and Rye Whiskey Barleywine will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles ($26) and will feature a purchase limit of three bottles and two bottles per person respectively. The event is non-ticketed and limits will be enforced with ID scanning software.
