On Monday, Hershey, Pa.-based Tröegs Independent Brewing released Nimble Giant.
Nimble Giant was born out of Tröegs’ small-batch Scratch program.
“Our brewers were about four batches in when we realized we were onto something,” said Justin Williams, marketing content manager at Troegs. “It was Scratch #195, the first time we dry-hopped with Mosaic and Simcoe, where we nailed that big, hoppy wow factor. Strangers stopped co-founder and brewmaster John Trogner in our Tasting Room, in the sporting goods store and at the butcher shop just to tell him how much they loved Scratch 195.”
The beer went through one big change, the addition of Azacca hops, in Scratch 229 before it became Nimble Giant. The finished product is a double IPA with an ABV of 9.8 percent and 69 IBUs.
Nimble Giant is currently available at the brewery taproom on draft, in four-packs of 16-ounce cans, and a small amount of 3 liter bottles, and will be available throughout Tröegs’ distribution footprint.
Considering the limited size of the release, Tröegs suggests that people skip its brew finder and, instead, follow the hashtag #findthegiant.
