Fans of Toppling Goliath Brewing Co.’s Assassin have been waiting all year, and today is the day their patience is being rewarded.
That is because the brewery is releasing this year’s incarnation of Assassin imperial stout at its taproom and brewery located in Decorah, Iowa. The 12 percent ABV imperial stout aged in whiskey barrels debuted in 2012 and was last sold on March 31, 2018, when 1,500 two-bottle allotments of the barrel-aged stout were sold for $100 and determined by an online lottery.
This year’s release from the Decorah, Iowa-based brewery is made up of four different sessions, with tickets that went on sale earlier this year priced at $6 each and each purchaser limited to two tickets. In an email, Clark Lewey, owner of Toppling Goliath, told Tenemu that Assassin 2019 is packaged in 22-ounce bottles priced at $50 each, with attendees at the release limited to one bottle each.
Finally, Toppling Goliath announced yesterday that it was releasing its Mornin’ Latte imperial coffee milk stout brewed with “a careful blend of cacao nibs and aromatic coffee” as well as lactose in cans for the first time. The imperial milk stout was released earlier this year as a draft-only option and incorporates the same base stout as the brewery’s famous Mornin’ Delight sans maple syrup and is being sold with no purchase limits during the Assassin 2019 release.
