For fans of Toppling Goliath Brewing Co.’s Assassin imperial stout, today is the best day of the year.

That is because the brewery is releasing this year’s incarnation of Assassin at its brewery’s new taproom and brewery located in Decorah, Iowa. The 12 percent ABV imperial stout aged in whiskey barrels debuted in 2012 and was last seen in January 2017, when it was released alongside another of Toppling Goliath’s monster stouts, Kentucky Brunch Brand Stout.

Allotments of Assassin 2018 were priced at $100 and determined by an online lottery that ended on Jan. 26, the winners of which are entitled to two 22-ounce bottles of the imperial stout. In addition, there are 500 more allotments this year compared to last year—1,500 instead of 1,000—although each allotment will include less than last year.

For the 2017 release, each $200 allotment included two 22-ounce bottles of Assassin, a 12-ounce bottle of Kentucky Brunch Brand Stout (KBBS) and two glasses. This year, KBBS is being released separately and allotments don’t include glassware, although custom glassware, clothing and “other items” will be for sale separately during the event.

Finally, Toppling Goliath has filed labels for 375ml bottles of two Assassin variants: Vanilla Assassin 2018, an imperial stout conditioned on vanilla beans and aged in whiskey barrels; and Muerte Dulce Assassin 2018, an imperial stout conditioned on cinnamon, peppers, vanilla beans and sea salt.

While there has been no confirmation on release details of the beers, the brewery has released Assassin variants during previous Assassin events that attendees could purchase exclusively for on-site enjoyment.
