The lottery for tickets to purchase one of the most sought after barrel-aged stouts in the world is now open at this website.
That beer is Toppling Goliath Brewing Co.’s Kentucky Brunch Brand Stout 2020—otherwise known as KBBS 2020—an imperial stout brewed with coffee aged in bourbon barrels that is being released at the Decorah, Iowa-based brewery starting on Dec. 4.
This year’s version of KBBS will be released on Dec. 4 packaged in hand-waxed and hand-numbered 12-ounce bottles that will carry a retail price of $100 each and a purchase limit of one bottle per person.
However, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, there will be some major changes for the newest incarnation of the legendary stout. First, proxies are being allowed to pick up bottles for winners of the lottery that cannot travel to the brewery, but each proxy must have a valid, scannable copy of the winner’s ticket and he or she must also have valid identification that proves they are over 21 years of age. In addition, instead of a release event, lottery winners or their proxies will be picking up their bottles curbside at the brewery on either Dec. 4 or Dec. 5.
Past incarnations of the Kentucky Brunch Brand Stout have been packaged in 12-ounce bottles sold exclusively at the brewery and have sold for more than $1,000 on the secondary market. The stout was last seen in Dec. 2019, when the bottles were sold for $100 each to winners of an online lottery with a limit of one bottle per person.
Each person is limited to one entry, with sign-ups closing on Oct. 21 at 11:59 p.m. CST and all entrants will receive an email on Oct. 26 informing them if their names were drawn in the lottery.
