Fans will have to a wait a little longer to purchase of one of Toppling Goliath Brewing Co.’s most anticipated barrel-aged stouts of the year.
That is because the Decorah, Iowa-based brewery has delayed the online sale of its Assassin 2020 “due to concerns about the spreading of COVID-19.” A sign-up for a ticket raffle that would give winners the option to purchase the 12 percent ABV imperial stout aged in whiskey barrels was originally scheduled to begin March 13.
“We are working hard to find a way to make this beer available to our customers in a safe and responsible manner,” reads a post on Toppling Goliath’s Twitter page. “We will keep you posted as this situation develops.”
The widening coronavirus pandemic has been blamed for a number of cancellations or postponements in the craft beer world in the past week:
- On March 14, 3 Floyds Brewing Co. announced it is postponing Dark Lord Day 2020 and ticket sales “until further notice.”
- On March 13, Cigar City Brewing cancelled Hunahpu’s Day 2020.
- On March 12, the Brewers Association announced the cancelation of the 2020 Craft Brewers Conference & Brew Expo America and the 2020 World Beer Cup competition.
- On March 11, Prairie Artisan Ales announced it would be rescheduling its Little Festival on the Prairie event from its original date of April 18 to Oct. 17, 2020.
According to Toppling Goliath, Assassin 2020 is scheduled to be released on May 2, 2020, but there has been no update on if that release day is being changed.
An email sent to the brewery for additional information was not immediately returned.
