Another beer from The Rare Barrel is heading to bottles, only this one isn’t entirely new, rather a draft-only release heading to bottles.
The beer is Shades of Cool, a 6.3 percent ABV “golden sour” fermented with saccharomyces, brettanomyces, lactobacillus and a “mix of other microorganisms” before being aged in oak barrels with black currants. The Berkeley, Calif.-based brewery released a beer with the same name that was a blend of three golden sour beers aged in oak barrels with black currants in late 2014, but it had a lower 5.7 percent ABV.
According to filings with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), the new bottle-conditioned limited release will be packaged in 750ml bottles. An email sent to the brewery for additional details was not immediately returned.
