The Rare Barrel’s newest release goes on sale to the public on May 23.

Another World is a 6 percent ABV sour red ale aged for 9-12 months in oak barrels and fermented with two different types of brettanomyces yeast as well as two different types of lactobacillus bacteria. The beer was bottled on March 12.

“Inside of this beer, there exists another world,” reads an email about the release sent to the Berkeley, Calif.-based brewery’s Ambassadors of Sour program.  “A world ruled entirely by yeast and bacteria. This dichotomous world survives and thrives through constant cooperation and competition.”

According to The Rare Barrel, Another World will be packaged in 750ml bottles ($20) and will go on sale for members of the Ambassadors of Sour program on May 19 with a 12-bottle limit. The public release will be May 23 at the brewery’s taproom with limits still to be determined.
