The Bruery announced today that Jim Mellem has been named director of brewing operations at the Placentia, Calif.-based brewery, which will entail managing all beer production operations for both The Bruery and Bruery Terreux, a new brand that focuses solely on farmhouse-style ales fermented with wild yeasts that was formed in June 2014.
After graduating from the University of California, Davis with a degree in food science and technology, Mellem was employed at Sierra Nevada Brewing Company at both its Chico, Calif. and Mills River, N.C. facilities. While there, he held a multitude of jobs including research analyst, assistant brewmaster, and quality operations manager.
“Jim brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in brewery operations and management, plus he’s the type of guy I want to have a beer with at the end of the day!” said Patrick Rue, The Bruery’s founder and ceo, in a press release. “The Bruery is in very capable hands with Jim leading our Production Team.”
Mellem replaces Tyler King, the Bruery’s first employee, who left earlier this year after serving as senior director of brewing operations.
