The growing popularity of cans over bottles continues, as Terrapin Brewing Co. has announced that it will be replacing the bottle packaging on all four of its Seasonal Sessions releases with 12-ounce cans starting with Mosaic Red Rye IPA in February.
According to a press release, the change was brought on by the success of the Athens, Ga.-based brewery’s first canned releases, RecreationAle and HI-5 IPA, which prompted Terrapin to install an extensive canning line earlier this year. The completion of the equipment installation in July made it possible to increase the number of beers that could be packaged into cans beyond just the two original lines.
“We really see cans as a big part of the craft beer industry going forward,” said Dustin Watts, vice-president of sales and marketing at Terrapin. “We wanted to increase the number of can offerings in our portfolio and felt that our Seasonal Sessions line was a great place to start.”
Along with Red Rye IPA, the other Seasonal Sessions to be canned next year are Maggie’s Peach Farmhouse Ale, Pumpkinfest ale and Moo-Hoo milk stout, all of which will be sold in 12-ounce six-packs.
