The second employee that Terrapin Beer Co. ever hired has been tapped for a much higher position.
According to a press release, Dustin Watts has been named president of the Athens, Ga.-based brewery, replacing Frank Skorzewski, who will retire after two years in the position. Watts joined Terrapin in 2003 as its second employee and was most recently the vice president of marketing and sales.
“I’m super excited about the opportunity to continue to grow the Terrapin brand and the Terrapin tribe,” Watts said in a press release. “From every brand we’ve released and every market we’ve opened, I’ve been a part of it, and I’m looking forward to taking the company to the next level.”
Founded in 2002, Terrapin is now one of the largest breweries in the southeast and produced approximately 85,000 barrels of beer in 2017. In addition, the brewery has distribution in 18 states and operates a taproom in Athens as well as the Terrapin ATL Brew Lab at the Atlanta Braves’ SunTrust Park in Atlanta.
MillerCoors purchased a majority interest in the brewery in 2016 and is being run as a separate business unit of Tenth & Blake.
Watts is scheduled to begin his new job on Sept. 1 and Skorzewski will remain with the company through the end of the year in a limited capacity to assist with the transition.
