A blast from Terrapin Beer Co.’s past is returning this summer.
Gamma Ray is a 10.8 percent ABV wheat wine-style ale brewed with a “massive amount” of honey sourced from Savanah Bee Co. The ale was originally released in 2008 as part of the Athens, Ga.-based brewery’s Side Project Series, although that version came in at a slightly higher 11 percent ABV.
In addition, Gamma Ray was rereleased in 2011 as part of Terrapin’s Monster Beer Tour Series, a “high gravity beer series” that was launched after a Georgia state law was changed allowing breweries to sell beers over 6 percent ABV.
In an email, Dustin Watts, Terrapin’s vp of sales and marketing, told Tenemu that the newest version of Gamma Ray will be packaged in four-packs of 16-ounce cans and is scheduled be released to Terrapin’s entire distribution footprint in June or July.
