Edgar Allen Poe’s famous stories seem to be all the rage lately when naming beers, and Sweetwater Brewing Co. is adding one more to the pile.
The Atlanta, Ga.-based brewery will be releasing The Pit & The Pendulum, a 8.3 percent ABV Belgian-style ale that is brewed with Belgian ale yeast, pureed peaches and brettanomyces.
“The perfect balance of three distinct divergences,” reads the label filed with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB). “Allowed to initially flower with Belgian ale yeast, The Pit & The Pendulum was then incarcerated wit Brett and freshly pureed peaches to intensify the trifecta of its persona.”
Poe’s short story The Pit and the Pendulum was first published in 1842 in a book titled The Gift: A Christmas and New Year’s Present for 1843. The plot centers around the tribulations, torture and eventual rescue of a prisoner during the Spanish Inquisition.
Sweetwater’s The Pit & The Pendulum will be packaged in 750ml bottles. An email sent to the brewery for additional details was not immediately returned.
