Next mont, SweetWater Brewing Co. will be releasing Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout, an 11.3 percent ABV imperial stout aged for six months in a combination of Old Forester, Heaven Hill and Jack Daniels barrels before being blended together and bottled. The beer was bottled on Sept. 11.

Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout is the second release in SweetWater’s Cork and Cage Series, following The Pit and the Pendulum, an 8.3 percent ABV Belgian-style ale that is brewed with Belgian ale yeast, pureed peaches and brettanomyces.

This is SweetWater’s first ever barrel-aged beer. While the name includes the word “bourbon,” Jack Daniels is not a bourbon due to Tennessee laws.

According to SweetWater, Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout will be packaged in 750ml and will be released at an event at the brewery on Oct. 4.
