According to a label filed with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), SweetWater Brewing Co. is preparing to release 420 Strain G13, a 6 percent ABV IPA brewed with terpenes to provide a “hemp-type flavor.”

Terpenes, also known as terpenoids, are aromatic hydrocarbons that make up the essential oils found in hops, hemp, and cannabis, creating the smells and flavors that the plants have in common.

The Atlanta-based brewery is pairing these terpenes with an already hoppy IPA in an effort to mimic the intense flavor and aroma of the G13 cannabis strain, for which this IPA is named.

An email sent to the brewery for further details was not immediately returned.
