Surly Brewing Co. is collaborating with the The Science Museum of Minnesota to release a new beer commemorating the classic video game culture during the past 50 years.
That beer is named Warp Zone, a 5 percent ABV pilsner-style ale brewed with Spalt Select hops. The new ale was brewed for the Game Changers exhibit at the museum which follows the evolution of video gaming from the 1970’s to the present, including game designer interviews and concept art as well as more than 100 playable games.
The beer will be packaged in four-packs of 16-ounce cans, with each can design paying homage to a different period of gaming design:
- Primitive black-and-white Pong/Atari 2600 games
- The 1980’s mall arcade
- Cellphone/desktop apps
- Hyper-realistic new era games
According to a post on Surly’s website, Warp Zone Pilsner will be released during an event at Up-Down Arcade Bar in Minneapolis on March 18 and will also be available at The Science Museum of Minnesota as well as throughout the Twin Cities area starting that same week.
