Surly Brewing Co. is making some significant changes to its lineup in 2019, including brand new beers, expanded seasonal releases and new packaging options.
The Minneapolis-based brewery has announced that there will be two new year-round IPAs: One-Man Mosh Pit is brewed with Amarillo, Citra and Mosaic hops and will be shipped to retailers packaged in 16-ounce cans in February while Sleek IPA is brewed and dry-hopped exclusively with Simcoe hops and will ship to retailers packaged in six-packs of 12-ounce cans starting in January. Only one of the two new beers from 2018 will return in 2019: +1 Golden Ale will return, Hopshifter IPA is being dropped.
Speaking of six-packs of 12-ounce cans, the Minneapolis-based brewery will be introducing the new packaging option for some of its most popular releases starting in January, including Furious IPA, Xtra-Citra Pale Ale and the aforementioned Sleek IPA.
In addition, Surly will continue to release variety packs made up of three each of four different beers packaged in 12-ounce cans.
There will again be four variety packs released throughout the year, with each box including at least two beers that are exclusive to that specific pack. The first sampler being released in January will contain the brand new Layer Up, a hazy, German-style ale.
There will also be four new quarterly seasonal offerings packaged in six-packs of 12-ounce cans staring at the beginning of the year with DAF IPA Brut-style IPA and continuing with the return of HeatSlayer Kolsch from April-June, Stunner Tropical Session from July-September and Winter IPA from October-December.
Surly’s Limited Release Series features a number of changes, including three new additions packaged in four-packs of 16-ounce cans:
- Rosé Lager brewed with black currants and strawberries will be shipping from March-August
- Damien is scheduled to be available in September
- Thirteen will be released in December
In addition, Darkness 2019 will be released in September while Barrel-Aged Darkness 2018 is scheduled to ship to retailers across Surly’s distribution network in April, both packaged in 750ml bottles.
Finally, the brewery’s BC Small Batch Series featuring beers crafted at Surly’s original Brooklyn Center facility will be returning with a new release every month packaged in four-packs of 16-ounce cans. While details are still being finalized, three of the beers will be named Funeral Bar, Staycation, and Sound Into Color.
