Stone Brewing Co.’s newest collaboration is with a legend in the craft beer world.
The legend is question is none other than Todd Haug, and the beer is Saurer Axtmann, a 9.5 percent ABV berliner weisse-style ale brewed with citrus hystrix leaf and ginger. Last year, Haug left his job as head of brewing operations at Surly Brewing Co., a position he had held for more than 10 years, before joining Munster, Ind.-based 3 Floyds Brewing Co.
Saurer Axtmann is one of the brewery’s Groundbreaking Collaborations that is being brewed at Stone’s new Berlin facility, which opened in Sept. 2015 after more than a year of construction. In 2014, StoneBerlin launched an Indigo campaign online that eventually raised more than $2.5 million to build the new brewery, with contributors having the option of being awarded large-format bottles of different collaboration beers that will be produced in the next year.
According to a label filed with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Saurer Axtmann will be packaged in 750ml bottles. An email sent to the brewery for additional information was not immediately returned.
