A new beer released this week from Stone Brewing Co. was originally inspired by the recipes of two Team Stone members.

The beer is Bitter Chocolate Oakmeal Bourbon Barrel Stout, an 11.4 percent ABV oatmeal stout brewed with Ahtanum, galena, Summit and Willamette hops as well as chocolate before being aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels for seven months. The new beer uses the Escondido, Calif.-based brewery’s 12th Anniversary Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout (9.2 percent ABV) as its base, which was first released in 2008 to commemorate Stone’s 12th anniversary.

In addition, the original version of 12th Anniversary Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout was rereleased in January as part of Stone’s 20th Anniversary Encore Series, which includes beers previously released being brought back to commemorate the brewery’s 20th anniversary.
