After Stone Brewing Co. announced that it would be releasing a “Mystery IPA” this year, the new beer named Mocha IPA has shipped to retailers, according to numerous social media posts around the country.
Mocha IPA is a 9 percent ABV double IPA that will be a new seasonal release available in six-packs of 12-ounce bottles through September.
Mocha IPA will join two other imperial seasonal releases for the brewery: Americano Stout (8.7 percent ABV), which is available from February-May and Xocoveza for the Holidays & the New Year (8.1 percent ABV) which is available from October-December.
The IPA is the same beer as draft-only release named Mocha IPA that was brewed in January to commemorate the of the second anniversary of Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens – Liberty Station. That Mocha IPA was released again last month as part of Stone’s Pilot Series and was brewed with cacao and coffee as well as Amarillo, Cascade and citra and hops and was “inspired” by two of the brewery’s previous releases: Aleman/Two Brothers/Stone DayMan Coffee IPA (8.7 percent ABV) and Stochasticity Project Master of Disguise imperial golden stout (9.7 percent ABV).
An email sent to Stone was not immediately returned, though the company typically will not comment on new products until a formal press release has been issued.
