The initials IRS means something other than just Internal Revenue Service to Stone Brewing Co. fans: it also means the return of Imperial Russian Stout.
According to the Escondido, Calif.-based brewery website, Stone will be releasing the 10.8 percent ABV Russian imperial stout brewed with four different malts and Warrior hops next week. The beer was first released in 2001, and has been sold every year since.
Since 2011, odd-numbered years have featured new variations of both Old Guardian Barley Wine and Imperial Russian Stout released in tandem with the classic versions, like 2015’s release of CHAI-SPICED Russian Imperial Stout (11 percent ABV.)
The 2016 incarnation of Stone Russian Imperial Stout will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles and will be available across the brewery’s entire distribution network starting on March 28.
