For the first time in the company’s history, Stone Brewing Co. will be canning one of its beers.
According to filings with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), the beer in question is Arrogant Bastard Ale, a 7.2 percent ABV ale that was first released in 1997 and has been packaged in various forms in the years since, including 12-ounce bottles, 22-ounce bottles, 3l bottles and on draft.
While this is the first time a Stone release has been packaged in cans, on April Fools’ Day last year the company put out a press release announcing that a fake beer, Stochasticity Project Cr(He)am Ale with Helium, would be sold in 16-ounce cans. In addition, the Escondido, Calif.-based brewery started offering 32-ounce Crowlers to customers in June.
According to the beer label, the newest incarnation of Arrogant Bastard Ale will be packaged in 16-ounce cans from Ball Corp. An email to the brewery asking for additional information was not immediately returned.
