Stone Brewing Co.’s newest release takes both it’s name and origin from one of Monty Python’s most beloved films.
Stochasticity Project – Your Father Smelt of Elderberries is an 10.3 percent ABV “medieval-style ale” brewed with 2-row, mild ale, amber, peaked and flacked oats malts as well as English holdings and target hops. As the name suggests, the beer is also brewed with elderberries as a special ingredient.
The new beer will be added to the brewery’s Stochasticity Project:
Stochasticity Project beers bravely explore lesser-trod territory. Imagine if you will emerging from the furthest depths of the dark, misty forest of time holding a chalice (perhaps one of catholically divine caliber) filled with an ale style dating back to medieval England. We find ourselves carried by the gait of hooves (which oddly sound like someone is clacking together two empty coconut halves) and happen upon a caste siege. Insults are being hurled from the walls above from …Frenchmen? Time to run away (after one last whack at the mighty stone castle walls with a broadsword) to discuss strategy just beyond the reach of catapulted bovines. Beer brewed with elderberries is freely shared. What strategies come from this? Trojan Rabbit! A brilliant ruse they’re sure to…catapult. Word to the wise, Sir Bedivere. Don’t strategize whilst drinking elderberry beer or the constables may show up at the end of your flick.
Stochasticity Project – Your Father Smelt of Elderberries joins six other releases in the Stone Stochasticity Project lineup, which was started to give the brewers almost total creative freedom to produce any beer they wanted, using any ingredients they wanted: Varna Necropolis (8.6 percent ABV), a bourbon barrel-aged gold Belgian ale; Quadrotriticale (9.3 percent ABV), a Belgian quadrupel brewed with triticale grain; Grapefruit Slam IPA (8.2 percent ABV), a double IPA brewed with grapefruit peels; Hibiscusicity (7.4 percent ABV), a Belgian-style ale brewed with hibiscus flowers and orange peel; Master of Disguise (9.7 percent ABV), an imperial golden stout brewed with cocoa and coffee beans and Stochasticity Project – HiFi+LoFi Mixtape (8.5 percent ABV), a blend of a “stock ale” that has been aged for more than three months in oak foudres and a fresh version of the same beer.
According to a press release, the new limited release will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles and has been begun shipping to Stone’s entire distribution network.
