Next year is an odd-numbered year, which means fans of Stone Brewing Co.’s Imperial Russian Stout will be looking for a brand new variant.

According to labels filed with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), that variant will be Espresso Totalitarian Imperial Russian Stout, a 10.6 percent ABV stout brewed with espresso. The base beer is the Escondido, Calif.-based brewery’s Totalitarian Imperial Russian Stout, a 10.6 percent ABV beer brewed with Belma and Magnum hops as well as flaked oats that debuted last year.

Since 2011, odd-numbered years have featured new variations of Stone’s base Imperial Russian Stout released in tandem with the classic version, including 2015’s release of Chai-Spiced Russian Imperial Stout, 2013’s Espresso Russian Imperial Stout and 2011’s Belgo Anise Russian Imperial Stout. A variant was not released in 2017.

According to the labels, Stone Espresso Totalitarian Imperial Russian Stout will be packaged in both 12-ounce cans as well as 22-ounce bottles and is scheduled to be released in 2019.

An email sent to the brewery for additional information was not immediately returned.
