Smuttynose Brewing Co. has released Smoked Cherry Short Weisse, a 6.6 percent ABV berliner-syle wheat ale brewed with cherries and “a small percentage” of smoked malt to the mash in order to “add some context to the tart, lactic flavors that characterize this beer style.”

This is the second time Smuttynose has sold a smoked berliner brewed with fruit, after Smoked Peach Short Weisse (6.9 percent ABV) was released early last year.

The new limited edition beer from the Portsmouth, N.H.-based brewery is being released under Smuttynose’s Smuttlabs division, which was founded in 2012 as a place for “special projects that just don’t fit anywhere else,” according to the brewery.

According to a post on the brewery’s Facebook page, Smoked Cherry Short Weisse is packaged in 500ml bottles ($8) and was released on Saturday at Smuttynose, with shipments going out to retailers starting this week.
