Smuttynose Brewing Co. has incorporated quite a few different fruits into its beers, and now it is the humble kiwi’s turn.
According to filings with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), the Portsmouth, N.H.-based brewery will be releasing Kiwi Short Weisse, a 4.9 percent ABV berliner-syle wheat ale brewed with kiwi.
As with the as yet unreleased Kung Fu Hobo kölsch (5.5 percent ABV), the new beer is being released under Smuttynose’s Smuttlabs division, which was founded in 2012 as a place for “special projects that just don’t fit anywhere else, if a project is out of the ordinary, unique or time consuming, you can bet it’ll bear the Smuttlabs name.”
The new limited release will be packaged in 12-ounce bottles and will be bottled in July. An email sent to the brewery for additional details was not immediately returned.
