Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is releasing a new version of one its signature beers.

According to Ryan Arnold, spokesman for Sierra Nevada, the Chico, Calif.-based brewery will be releasing Barrel-Aged Hoptimum, a 11.5 percent ABV imperial IPA that has been aged for approximately seven months in a “blend of Kentucky bourbon barrels.” As the name suggests, the base beer for the new release is Hoptimum (10.4 percent ABV), which was first released in 2010 and is brewed with magnum, chinook, simcoe and “a new experimental hop” variety that is exclusive to Sierra Nevada.

The Trip In The Woods Series “reveals the adventurous nature of barrel aging” and has included releases such as Barrel-Aged Lime Ale (9.3 percent ABV), Scotch Style Ale (9.1 percent ABV) aged in bourbon barrels; Barrel-Aged Porter (7.4 percent ABV) aged in red wine barrels; Ovila Quad (10.3 percent ABV) aged in madeira barrels (11.5 percent ABV) and Tawny Narwhal (11.4 percent ABV), an imperial stout aged in tawny port barrels.

According to Arnold, Barrel-Aged Hoptimum will be packaged in 750ml bottles and will be available “in the coming weeks ” exclusively at Sierra Nevada’s  Gift Shops in Chico, Calif. and  Mills River, N.C. as well as the brewery’s Torpedo Room in Berkeley, Calif.
