Side Project Brewing is betting on black with its newest release.
The St. Louis, Mo.-based brewery will be releasing Blackberry Bière du Pays, a 5 percent ABV saison aged in wine barrels for “several months” and conditioned on blackberries. As the name suggests, the new beer uses Side Project’s Bière du Pays (4 percent ABV) as its base, a saison that was first released in 2014.

“We added a thoughtful amount of Blackberries to our Biére du Pays to not cloud the nuances of our lovely, little beer, but to add a layer of soft fruit and color for a new experience,” reads a post on Side Project’s Instagram page. “Our Missouri yeast and bacteria provide the layers of complexity to this farmhouse ale that was aged in wine barrels for several months before being naturally conditioned in this bottle.”
According to Side Project, Blackberry Bière du Pays will be packaged in 750ml bottles ($25) and will have allocations based on turnout when it is released at the brewery on March 26.
