Last October, Casey Brewing and Blending released its version of a collaboration with Side Project Brewing name Velvet and this weekend it is Side Project’s turn.
The St. Louis, Mo.-based brewery’s incarnation of Velvet is an 8 percent ABV saison ale brewed with mixed cultures from both breweries and aged in French wine barrels for 12 months. Velvet was then conditioned on 1,400 pounds of organic Colorado apricots before being packaged in 750ml bottles. Casey Brewing’s version of the beer was conditioned on five pounds of organic Colorado Perfection apricots per gallon before being packaged in 750ml bottles and was released on Oct. 4, 2018.
Velvet is the third different beer that the two breweries have joined forces on: Jammy, an 8 percent ABV saison conditioned on a “massive amount” of Colorado blackberries; and Leaner, an 8 percent ABV saison conditioned on Flamecrest Colorado peaches that debuted in 2016.
According to a post on Side Project’s Twitter page, Velvet will be packaged in 750ml bottles that are scheduled to be released exclusively at the brewery and The Side Project Cellar on May 18. As has historically been the case, allocations will be based on the number of people who show up for the release.
