Peter Bouckaert, head brewer of New Belgium Brewing Co., is leaving the company to start a side project with the owners of 1933 Brewing Co.
The new brewery is named Purpose Brewing and Cellars, and it will encompass “an aspiring farm brewery brewing coffee and beer.” Bouckaert will continue to brew at New Belgium until the end of the year, then start at the new brewery full time, where he will join 1933 Brewing owners Zach and Laura Wilson.
“Getting involved in Purpose Brewing and Cellars makes me really enthusiastic,” said Bouckaert, in a press release. “The creative collaborative art of the brews that will be crafted will enhance the Fort Collins’ and Colorado’s beer mecca further!”
Bouckaert—who once owned his own small scale brewery in Belgium—began his career as head brewer at New Belgium in 1996.
According to a press release, Purpose Brewing and Cellars is scheduled to open this summer and will be located in the previous location of 1933 Brewing Company in Fort Collins, Colo.
