For the second year in a row, Oskar Blues Brewery is releasing a variant of its most popular stouts on April 20, but this version is a bit different compared to last year.
JAHvanilla Ten FIDY 2019 is a 14.3 percent ABV imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels and conditioned on vanilla and Jamaican Blue Mountain cold brewed coffee that will be packaged in 19.2-ounce cans. However, the newest incarnation is actually a blend of bourbon barrel-aged Ten FIDY and double bourbon-barrel aged Ten FIDY conditioned on Madagascar vanilla beans and a “super concentrated cold brew” that was sourced from Hotbox Roasters and was made with two pounds of coffee per barrel of beer.
As the name suggests, the base beer is the Longmont, Colo.-based brewery’s Ten Fidy, a 10.5 percent ABV imperial stout. JAHvanilla Ten FIDY debuted on April 20, 2018, but that version came in at a lower 12.9 percent ABV and did not include double bourbon-barrel aged Ten FIDY in the blend.
Oskar Blues has released a number of Ten FIDY variants over the years, including Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY, Java Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY and Rum Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY. In addition, the brewery has released at least one version of Ten FIDY brewed with both coffee and vanilla, although it was a non-barrel-aged draft-only option that came in at a much lower 10.5 percent ABV.
According to a post on Oskar Blues’ website, JAHvanilla Ten FIDY 2019 will be packaged in 19.2-ounce cans ($12.50) and is being released exclusively at the brewery’s Brevard, N.C., Boulder, Colo. and Longmont taprooms on April 20 with no purchase limits. The beer will also be released only on draft at Oskar Blues’ Austin, Texas taproom due to state laws.
