Oskar Blues Brewery has released the newest variant in its Death By series of porters.

Death By Affogato is a 6.5 percent ABV porter brewed with cacao nibs, hand-split Ugandan and Madagascar vanilla beans, lactose and coffee sourced from Traction Coffee Roasters. The stout is meant to replicate the flavors of an affogato, which is a beverage/dessert hybrid consisting of cold vanilla gelato covered by hot espresso.

“We like to think of ourselves as proudly unpretentious foodies here at Oskar Blues,” said Juice Drapeau, head brewer at Oskar Blues, in a press release. “In a beer like Death By Affogato, we’ve taken inspiration directly from the culinary world. ‘Affogato’ is a fancy name, but forget about that. All you need to know is that ice cream and coffee are a legendary pair.”

The Longmont, Colo.-based brewery has used the Death By moniker numerous times in past, specifically for Death By Coconut, a 6.5 percent ABV Irish porter brewed with coconut and pure liquid cacao made from cacao, water and coconut sugar that was sourced from Boulder-based Cholaca that debuted in 2014; Death By Coffee, a 6.5 percent ABV porter brewed with coffee and Death By King Cake, a 6.5 percent ABV porter brewed with cacao nibs, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange peel, pecans and vanilla that was released last year.

According to Oskar Blues, Death By Affogato is packaged in four-packs of 12-ounce cans that are available at retailers nationwide now.
