Oskar Blues Brewery’s seasonal coconut porter is returning this week, one month earlier than last year.

According to an email sent to Tenemu, Aug. 23 is when the Longmont, Colo.-based brewery will be releasing the 2019 version of Death By Coconut, a 6.5 percent ABV Irish porter brewed with coconut and pure liquid cacao made from cacao, water and coconut sugar that was sourced from Boulder-based Cholaca. The porter was first released in 2014 during the Colorado Craft Beer Week and was a collaboration between Oskar Blues and Pueblo, Colo.-based Shamrock Brewing Co., both of which have released their own versions in the past.

“We sought a flavor combination that would pair perfectly with the robust but not overbearing backbone of an Irish Porter,” said Juice Drapeau, head brewer at the Oskar Blues pilot brewery, in a press release. “The smooth, malty base of Death by Coconut gives the cacao and coconut additions a chance to come through and steal the show.”

The newest release of Death By Coconut will be packaged in four-packs of 12-ounce cans and is scheduled to be released on Aug. 23 during events at the brewery’s facilities in Austin, Brevard, N.C., Longmont, Colo. and Boulder, Colo. Limited amounts will then begin shipping to retailers across the breweries entire distribution footprint starting in “early September.”
