The newest release of Oskar Blues Brewery’s most popular barrel-aged stout is shipping later this month, but there will be less beer per can for this year’s incarnation.
That is because the Longmont, Colo.-based brewery will be shipping 12-ounce cans of its Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY, a 12.5 percent ABV imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels for eight months. After years of being available as a draft-only option, the barrel-aged stout debuted in 19.2-ounce cans in 2015 and has been released every year before now in the packaging option since then.
“Ten FIDY is a complicated beer for our brewers but they really dig into the behemoth task of delivering a big-time stout,” said Tim Matthews, head of brewing operations for Oskar Blues, in an email sent to Tenemu. “Barrel-aging ups the ante even further – ramping up the chocolate, coffee and roasted notes to the maximum.”
According to Oskar Blues, Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY 2019 will be packaged in four-packs of 12-ounce cans that are scheduled to begin shipping to retailers nationwide in “mid-November.”
In addition, the brewery’s taprooms located in Boulder, Colo., Longmont, Colo. and Brevard, N.C. will be “throwing open the barrel-aged vaults” on Nov. 29 and selling vintage beers in variety four-packs from past releases that will include JAHvanilla, Salted Caramel Ten FIDY, Chocolate Hazelnut Praline Ten FIDY and Java Ten FIDY.
