The newest release in Odell Brewing Co.’s Cellar Series is coming next month.
Brazzle Sour Golden Raspberry Ale is a 5.4 percent ABV “golden ale” brewed with raspberries that was aged for over two years in oak barrels. In addition, 300 pounds of raspberries were added both before and after the beer was aged in barrels.
“This beer was originally born on the pilot system a while back,” said Brent Cordle, Odell barrel aging/pilot system manager on a post on the brewery’s website.
“We did a small batch and threw in whole raspberries to see what would happen. We brewed a Golden Ale at a higher mash temperature to keep some of the sugars from breaking down. Other yeasts can break down the sugars later in the fermentation process, giving it those unique flavors. We used former Woodcut barrels for the aging process which took a little over two years.”
The Fort Collins, Colo.-based brewery’s Cellar Series is made up of beers that are made with the brewery’s pilot system, with some “brewed in the name of research, some are envelope pushers, and some are just for fun.”
Brazzle Sour Golden Raspberry Ale will be released in “early March” packaged in 750ml corked and caged bottles and will be sent to the 11 states that make up its distribution footprint.
