Ninkasi Brewing Co. is releasing a new option in its R&D Series in 2016.

The new beer is Tart & Soul, a 5 percent ABV “American kettle sour ale” brewed with lactobacillus and blackberries.

“Bright and tart, this beer is soulfully crafted with a distinctly Northwest ingredient – blackberry, “reads the beer label filed with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB.) “Paired with a dry tartness imparted by the lactobacillus souring process and the subtle blackberry sweetness, Tart & Soul beckons to be embraced.”

Tart & Soul will join the Eugene, Ore.-based brewery’s Rare & Delicious Series, which are beers that are “the creative expressions of each member of our brewing collective” and also includes Imperial Pumpkin Sleigh’r (9 percent ABV), Sour of Love (5 percent ABV) and Mango IPA (7.2 percent ABV) among others.

According to the beer label, Tart & Soul will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles. An email sent to the brewery for additional information was not immediately returned.
