New Belgium Brewery from Fort Collins, Colo. and the Maryland based rock band, Clutch, have welcomed the return of their Lips of Faith Series collaboration, Clutch.

Clutch is a sour stout weighing in at 8.5 percent ABV that is brewed with dark chocolate, coffee, and black malts as well as Nugget hops. This is actually the second time the beer has been released, with the last batch of the stout having been sold in 2011.

The Lips of Faith Series is New Belgium’s series that focuses on innovative and sour beers.

Clutch’s base beer is Oscar, the sour brown ale that sits in New Belgium’s enormous French oak foeders for years, fermenting, acidifying, and conditioning. Oscar can then be transformed and blended into the flagship sour, La Folie, or in the case of Clutch, mixed with other beers to make something different. The ratio of Oscar base beer to stout is 30 percent Oscar to 70 percent stout.

According to a post on New Belgium’s Facebook page, the newest incarnation of Clutch is packaged in 22-ounce bottles and is shipping to retailers in the brewery’s distribution network this week.
