This “French-style saison” has been aging for 10 months with passionfruit in a neutral French oak foeder, which is a large wooden fermenters. The 2017 release of this beer was the first sour for New Belgium that was refermented with fruit inside the foeder. The saison measures in at 8.2 percent ABV.
The Passionfruit Foeder Saison was originally released as a part of the Blender Project in 2017, but was only available on draft at New Belgium’s Fort Collins, Colo. location. According to Megan Olson, public relations manager at New Belgium, the Blender Project Series allows the brewery to “experiment with new techniques, exotic ingredients and industry-leading innovation” with the intent of large scale distribution if the project is successful.
