San Diego-based Modern Times Beer Co. has received label approval from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) for Aztec Mummy, a tequila barrel-aged gose.

According to the label the new beer is 8.5 percent ABV with 17 IBUs.

According to the label:

Aztec Mummy is a marriage of two improbable elements: our gose – a salty, sour beer style of German origin – and tequila barrels from Northern Mexico. The result is a crazy mash-up that’s almost impossible to categorize. A Massive, peppery, earthy tequila-barrel aroma leads into a tart, quenching flavor loaded with tropical fruit, oak, vanilla, lime and citrus notes. It’s kinda like a margarita in beer form, but crazier. Dig it.

Aztec Mummy was not listed on the brewery’s special release calendar for 2016, but was mentioned as part of the brewery’s The League of Partygoers and Elegant People, Modern Times’ special beer club.

Another variant of the beer, “Aztec Mumm w/ mango & guava” was also listed as another limited availability beer on that list.
