Fans of Mikkeller ApS Barrel-Aged Vanilla Shake Beer Geek living in San Diego will soon be able to buy the beer in bottles locally, along with a rare variant.

That is because Mikkeller Brewing San Diego will be releasing two bottled versions of the beer for the first time: Whiskey Barrel-Aged Vanilla Shake Beer Geek, an 13 percent ABV oatmeal stout brewed with both coffee and vanilla before being aged in bourbon whiskey barrels for 241 days and a version of the same beer aged in rum barrels for 241 days named Rum Barrel-Aged Vanilla Shake Beer Geek. While previous versions of the stout have been produced at Lervig Aktiebryggeri in Stavanger, Norway, these new incarnations have been brewed, aged and bottled at Mikkeller Brewing San Diego.

In an email, Daniel Cady, cellar manager and specialty brewer for Mikkeller San Diego, told Tenemu that the new beers share the same recipe as previous versions, but that they are not technically the same beer since they were “aged in barrels available to us.”

According to Cady, both Whiskey Barrel-Aged Beer Geek Vanilla Shake and Rum Barrel-Aged Vanilla Shake Beer Geek will be packaged in 750ml bottles and are scheduled to be released at both Mikkeller Brewing San Diego and in Denmark sometime in June.
