A new release from Lagunitas Brewing Co. has a decidely Japanese flair.
The beer is named Sakitumi, an 8 percent ABV ale brewed with sake yeast and rice. Sake is a Japanese rice wine made by fermenting rice, and sake yeast has been used in beers before, most notably Dogfish Head Craft Brewery’s Chateau Jiahu (10 percent ABV) and Red Horizon (17 percent ABV) by Nøgne Ø – Det Kompromissløse Bryggeri A/S in Norway.
According to a label filed with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Sakitumi will be packaged in 32-ounce bottles. An email sent to the brewery for additional information was not immediately returned.
